GOT TO GO DISCO — (Via Deadline) Ian Bonhôte, director of 2018 doc McQueen and co-founder of Pulse Films, is heading to the dance floor for his latest documentary.

Bonhôte, who now runs Misfits Entertainment, has teamed with Queer Eye producer Scout Productions for docuseries Teardrops On The Dancefloor.

The series will take a look at the evolution of dance music from its early roots in 20th-century club culture through today’s pop culture.

It will offer a deep dive into the work of some of today’s most successful DJs and an exploration of their influences over fifty years of music, dancing and raving. Inspired by club culture stories curated by remix and dance music marketing executive Brad Mason LeBeau, the series will take a look at the cultural and historical context in which dance music was born and then grew.

Bonhôte also directed 2020’s Rising Phoenix and is working on an upcoming film about Christopher Reeve. Scout, meanwhile, has recently made docuseries Mer People for Netflix and The Secrets of Hillsong for FX and Hulu.

Rob Eric, Joel Chiodi, David Collins and Michael Williams serve as executive producers for Scout Productions; Dee Ryder serves as EP for Misfits Entertainment working alongside Bonhôte and Lizzie Gillett along with independent producer Brad Mason LeBeau.

A long-overdue concept for sure. We’ve been aware of this for awhile but held back news on it.

Brad LeBeau

Brad LeBeau is mentioned in the press release but from what we know, he’s been the pivotal force behind this project. His Pro Motion marketing/promotion firm just celebrated their 40th anniversary (July 5) and LeBeau -who’s been a DJ himself at both Xenon and Magique- knows his stuff and his history. He’s promoted projects from the likes of Shakira; Diana Ross; Janet Jackson; Depeche Mode; Christina Aguilera and many more and has curated many of the recent remixes of classic records.

It’s always struck me as odd that the name-DJs from the 70’s and 80’s – who did exemplary remix work – have largely been ignored. Names like Shep Pettibone; Larry Levan; David Morales; Tom Moulton; Sharon White; Steve Thompson; John Robie; Arthur Baker; and Glenn Friscia, among others, have sadly been forgotten. Marquee-name like The Rolling Stones; Phil Collins and Philip Bailey; Rod Stewart ; U2; Bruce Springsteen; Smashing Pumpkins; Debbie Gibson; and INXS have utilized their talents.

I honestly don’t recall another heavy metal outfit performing on the Today Show, although the Foo Fighters come to mind. Thursday was Wolfgang Van Halen’s Mammoth performing. The song was great, but certainly not as memorable as several Van Halen tracks. Standing by was Wolfgang’s fiancee and his mom Valerie Bertinelli. Hey, it helps to have friends in high places … The recent news of Taylor Swift giving her tour-support personnel bonuses was terrific and mind-blowing at the same time. Truth be told, this is something that rarely happens in today’s world let alone the music-industry. Good for her. Bravo! .. We’re back mid-week, next week.

LADY M UPDATE — (Via Ultimate Classic Rock) After Madonna‘s planned Celebration world tour was halted following a stint in the ICU in late June, the singer/entertainer/pop culture icon later updated fans with a social media post regarding her “road to recovery” from a bacterial infection.

Madonna has since now shared another update, and this one weighs especially heavy given what she’s been through since the initial issue. In a lengthy message posted to Instagram on Sunday, Madonna expresses appreciation for her children and their role in helping her during this rough stretch:

“Love from family and friends is the best Medicine. One month out of the hospital and I can reflect. As a Mother you can really get caught up In the needs Of your children and the seemingly endless giving……….. But when the chips were down my children really showed up for me. I saw a side to them I had never seen before. It made all the difference.

So did the love and support from my friends. If you zoom into this Picture I am holding You will see A Polaroid taken by Andy Warhol of Keith Haring wearing a jacket with Michael Jackson’s face painted on it. A perfect triangle of Brilliance.

Artist who touched so many lives including my own.

I sobbed when I opened this gift because I realized how lucky I am to be alive. And how fortunate I am to have known these people and so many others who are also gone.Thank you @guyoseary for this gift!And Thank you to all my angels who protected me and let me Stay to finish doing my work!”

Officially detailed back in January, the Celebration tour was supposed to start on July 15 in Vancouver and run for several months, moving overseas in early 2024, with the goal of celebrating Madonna’s 40th anniversary as an artist — but now, those plans are on hold.

Literally days after she returned to her 81st street home in NYC, she was seen walking the streets of Manhattan, so who knows? I’ve known her, respect her and wish to hell she’d get back with producer Shep Pettibone or Patrick Leonard and produce some more classic music! Cheers Madonna!

BURTON ON PEE WEE — (Via Deadline) Tim Burton will never forget Paul Reubens. Burton has shared a tribute to Reubens, who starred in and co-wrote Burton’s feature directorial debut Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, following Reuben’s death Sunday following a years-long battle with cancer at age 70.

“Shocked and saddened,” Burton wrote in a post on Instagram alongside a photo of the two on the set of Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. “I’ll never forget how Paul helped me at the beginning of my career. It would not have happened without his support. He was a great artist. I’ll miss him.”

Pee-wee’s Big Adventure‘s Pee-wee Herman character became known following the 1981 The Pee-wee Herman Show comedy special on HBO. The film character was a quirky man who dressed in his trademark gray suit, red bow tie and white loafers, and in the film went on an adventure as he hunted down his stolen bike.

Reubens appeared in three of Burton’s films. In addition to Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Reubens voiced Lock in The Nightmare Before Christmas, for which Burton wrote the story and co-produced. He also appeared as the father of Danny DeVito’s Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin character in 1992’s Batman Returns.

In a 2016 interview in Collider, Reubens praised Burton when asked why he selected Burton to direct Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.

I think it was the wallpaper in Frankenweenie, in the second shot of the movie. From the first minute of his film, I could tell that he was somebody who was very interested in style,” Reubens said. “He brought style to something, and a lot of young directors aren’t there yet. A lot of people who have directed for long careers still don’t have much style. So, I could tell that he had a style, and that he understood production design and art direction. There was a lot of stuff about that first film that felt perfect to me.”

Yesterday we told you about Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Hollywood memorabilia auctions. The list of items was so long and fabulous we decided to do a part 2.

A Captain America shield used by Chris Evans in Captain America – The First Avenger ($20,000 – $30,000). This prop seen while Captain America is performing on stage as “The Star-Spangled Man” is composed of resin and fiberglass, with faux leather straps adhered on the back side for securing the wearer’s arm.

A “Wonderboy” baseball bat ($20,000 – $30,000) as used by Robert Redford as “Roy Hobbs” in The Natural. The thirty-three-inch bat is offered together with a crew T-shirt and a collection of small props and production ephemera from an assistant prop maker (whose hands can be seen applying the lettering to the bat in the shots included in the final film).

Jack Nicholson signed Joker glove from Batman ($3,000 – $5,000). This iconic purple glove is the style that Joker wears in multiple scenes of the 1989 film, that has been inscribed, “Jack “Joker” Nicholson.”

An Amazon Mother Box from Justice League ($10,000 – $20,000). This prop appears guarded by the Amazons as one of three Mother Boxes that Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds) intended to use to take control of Earth.

An axe prop from Stranger Things($4,000 – $6,000). The axe is used by Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers in season one, chapter four titled “The Body.”

Jamie Lee Curtis’s fully-beaded ivory 1983 Academy Awards evening gown ($1,000 – $2,000).Marlene Dietrich originally owned the gown and wore a similar version in the 1942 film, The Lady Is Willing. Jamie Lee Curtis would wear the dress to present the Oscar for Best Sound Effects Editing alongside Carl Weathers.

Janet Leigh’s 1960 Academy Award gown attributed to Edith Head ($2,000 – $4,000). This silver-tone beaded gown features glass bugle beads that are sewn vertically throughout. Janet Leigh, and her husband at the time, Tony Curtis were both presenters at the ceremony.

An Officer Alex Murphy Robocop 2 stunt costume ($2,000- $3,000). Worn by Peter Weller and/or his stunt double in the reprisal of the title role from Irvin Kershner’s sequel film. The costume comprises a fiberglass helmet with latex face, urethane armor, and an undersuit and gloves made of foam and spandex. The helmet and armor pieces bear “OCP” markings and are painted an iridescent blue, with the helmet created specifically for the production and the armor pieces believed to have originated from the production of the first film, RoboCop.

And from Terminator 2 – Judgment Day“Future War” Skynet Hunter Killer “HK” Tank ($10,000 – $20,000). A massive SkyNet “Hunter Killer” or “HK” tank created by Gene Warren Jr. and his crew at Fantasy II Film Effects for the production of James Cameron’s sequel film.

The previously announced auction of three exquisite garments, designed by two of the Princess of Wales’s favorite designers Bruce Oldfield and Catherine Walker and that have not been seen in public in over 30 years since their auction by Christie’s in 1997, include: a stunning scarlet red silk Bruce Oldfield gown with a draped short sleeve bodice and ruching to the waist and hips with a lamé tartan motif worn by Princess Diana while attending the film premiere of Hot Shots! at the Odeon Leicester in November of 1991 with President Arpad Goncz of Hungry and his wife Szusza (estimate: $200,000 to $400,000) (photo above credit: Trinity Mirror / Mirrorpix / Alamy Stock Photo); a slender fitting white silk crepe with bold bands of black silk velvet strapless Catherine Walker gown (estimate: $60,000 – $80,000) worn by Princess Diana to a private function; and a head-turning, off the shoulder black faille bodice with a décolleté neckline with a draped jade silk skirt with fringed sash and side slit Catherine Walker evening gown worn by Princess Diana to a gala dinner at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Canada in 1986 (estimate: $100,0000 – $200,000).

From galaxies far away, highlights from royalty from one of the biggest blockbuster franchises of all time is represented by Princess Leia’s production made slave costume from Star Wars – Return of the Jedi(estimate:$20,000 – $30,000)

along with an array of significant contemporary props from the Star Wars saga including Han Solo’s DL-44 heavy blaster (estimate:$15,000 – $20,000) and Chewbacca’s bowcaster from Star Wars – The Force Awakens (estimate:$40,000 – $60,000), Pedro Pascal’s IB-94 blaster pistol from The Mandalorian (estimate:$10,000 – $20,000), as well as a Don Post original trilogy C-3PO and R2-D2 display statues and more.

A rare treasure trove of collectibles from Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, the dazzling and famous couple whose love affair and films epitomized Hollywood Royalty, will be offered for the first time at auction. At the centerpiece are the couple’s matching 14k gold wedding rings that were exchanged by Bogart and Bacall during their wedding on May 21st, 1945 and Lauren Bacall’s engraved whistle bracelet (photo below right)that was gifted to her by Bogart.

Other extraordinary highlights include: Humphrey Bogart’s gifted lighter/clock (estimate: $10,0000 – $20,000) engraved, “Bogie / Happy Birthday / Tony / 12-25-1954” and believed to have been a gift presented to Bogart by either Anthony Quinn or Tony Curtis; a pair of 14k gold and black cultured pearl cufflinks gifted to Humphrey Bogart by Lauren Bacall (estimate: $10,0000 – $20,000); a silver-tone lighter given to Lauren Bacall as a gift by the crew of The African Queen engraved “To Betty / With love from / the crew of / The African Queen” (estimate: $10,0000 – $20,000);

Bogart’s monogrammed lighter engraved with his initials (estimate: $10,0000 – $20,000); Bacall’s heart-shaped locket inscribed, “Baby / Here’s my heart / Bogie.” (estimate: $10,0000 – $20,000). Bogart made his most iconic films (48 films in total) at Warner Bros., including Casablanca, which won the Academy Award for best picture, and To Have and Have Not, which paired him opposite Lauren Bacall for the first time.

The Legends auction will boldly go where no man has gone before offering items for Star Trek fans and collectors such as the Trek “unicorn” of collecting – a maroon Starfleet command/officer’s jacket worn by William Shatner as Admiral James T. Kirk in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (estimate: $100,000 – $200,000). Also included is an original Borg cube studio model constructed by Industrial Light and Magic for Star Trek – First Contact (estimate: $50,000 – $70,000) that was used during the initial sequences of the film, and can be seen when Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) disobeys Star Fleet orders to respond to a Borg threat to Earth, destroying the Borg cube and following the Borg sphere through a temporal vortex. Also featured are an original Copernicus shuttle filming miniature from Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (estimate: $30,000 – $40,000), a “U.S.S Yeager” starship model used in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (estimate: $10,000 – $20,000), and a number of full-scale spacial torpedo props from Star Trek: Enterprise, as well as other key props from the franchise.

An incredible array of contemporary props and Hollywood artifacts include a terrifying one-of-a-kind production made and used Xenomorph head from the Carlo Rambaldi Achives from Alien(estimate: $40,000 – $60,000). This original xenomorph creature head was fabricated by famed Shepperton Design Studios from an original design by Academy Award-winning artist H.R. Giger and expertly restored by the team at Blok4. Additional Alien highlights include a full-scale display figure of the “Alien Queen” with eggs from James Cameron’s sequel film made from the production molds and includes expertly painted fiberglass and polyfoam components: an impressive head and carapace with two hind legs, two pairs of arms, one pair of scapular spikes, and a flexible tail.

From the wizarding world of Harry Potter, Julien’s Auctions and TCM will cast a spell once again with more fantastic items on offer than ever before, including original hand-detailed character wands from the series such as: Michael Gambon’s “Albus Dumbledore” Elder wand from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (estimate: $10,000 – $20,000), Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger’s wands from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (estimate range $5,000 – $10,000 each), Ralph Fiennes’ “Lord Voldemort” wand from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (estimate: $40,000 – $60,000) (photo right), and many more.

Additional highlights from the world of contemporary Hollywood include: an original Mark XLII helmet from Iron Man III (estimate: $50,000 – $70,000) (photo left) that was used by Robert Downey Jr. in his role as “Tony Stark / Iron Man,” composed of a fiberglass material and a removable faceplate with the markings “RDJ” and “MK/42” on the inside of the helmet; a production made mask as worn by Ryan Reynolds as “Wade Wilson / Deadpool” in Deadpool (estimate: $30,000 – $50,000); Harrison Ford’s original “Rick Deckard” stunt Pflager-Katsumata Series D “LAPD-PK-D” blaster prop and Ryan Gosling’s “K” stunt “LAPD 2049” blaster prop from Blade Runner 2049 (each estimate: $20,000-$30,000); an original P.I.T. Bull prop hoverboard used by Thomas F. Wilson as “Griff Tannen” in Back to the Future Part II (estimate: $40,000 – $60,000) and many others.

A storied sci-fi relic featured in this auction is a special-effects flying saucer, created by L.B. “Bill” Abbott for Robert Wise’s classic Cold War-era science fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still which is expected to fetch $60,000-$80,000. The 7-foot-long model is composed of fiberglass that has been painted silver and can be seen during two special effects shots in the film at the beginning and at the end.

Lighting up the auction runway will be Julien’s and TCM’s Classic Hollywood showcase of costumes worn by the screen’s most legendary leading ladies, Audrey Hepburn, Greta Garbo, Anne Baxter, Judy Garland, Elizabeth Taylor, and Vivien Leigh. Garments range from 1930s floor-length glamour ensembles to 1960s cocktail chic created by the likes of Edith Head, Gilbert Adrian, and Rene Hubert, whose legendary costume designs helped to define the image of some of the screen’s most iconic characters and the leading ladies who played them.

Certain to generate a frenzy is Audrey Hepburn’s flamingo pink embellished silk-organza dress worn in her iconic role as Holly Golightly in Blake Edward’s 1961 film classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The sweet confection-colored frock designed by Hepburn’s lifelong friend and French courtier Hubert de Givenchy and featuring hand-sewn guipure fanned lace applique with faceted silver sequins and iridescent beads has an estimate of $200,000 – $400,000. Another classic Audrey Hepburn highlight is a straw widebrim hat (photo right) with hand-gathered chiffon with colors of mango, cantaloupe, and melon green worn in her role as the bookkeeper turned model Jo Stockton in Funny Face (estimate $2,000 – $4,000).

Other top highlights from this collection include: Greta Garbo’s cream-colored taffeta floor-length housecoat with gigot sleeves by legendary Hollywood costume designer Gilbert Adrian, a costume that serves drama and luxury as only Garbo can as the courtesan and star-crossed lover, Camille in the film’s titular role (estimate $2,000 – $4,000) ; Anne Baxter’s “Queen Nefertari” Egyptian style chiffon and organdy gown (estimate $2,000 – $4,000) designed by eight-time Academy Award-winning Hollywood costume designer Edith Head for Cecille B. De Mille’s film classic The Ten Commandments; Judy Garland’s duchess satin wedding gown designed by Tom Keogh in the 1948 film The Pirate co-starring Gene Kelly (estimate: $4,000 – $6,000); Elizabeth Taylor’s fitted blouse with peplum designed by Academy Award-winning costume designer Marjorie Best and worn in the 1947 film Life with Father; and a 18th-century velvet embellished gown designed by Rene Hubert from That Hamilton Woman worn by Vivien Leigh (photo below right) (estimate: $2,000 – $4,000).

A Walther P99 pistol prop from Tomorrow Never Dies ($40,000 – $60,000) used by Pierce Brosnan as “James Bond.” James Bond uses this type of firearm throughout the film, replacing the iconic PPK that had been used in previous James Bond films. This more contemporary sidearm would first appear in the film when Bond chooses it from Wai Lin’s (Michelle Yeoh) armory in Saigon.

SPACEY IN THE CLEAR? — Actor Kevin Spacey was cleared of all charges in his recent U.K. trial and was cleared here in a case involving Rent’s Anthony Rapp. In fact, he’s been victorious in all of the cases. What does it all mean? I’m not really sure. His career has been curt short for sure.Netflix’s House of Cards was the first project to jettison him and then he was replaced in Ridley Scott’s All The Money In The World.

I watched House of Cards in the beginning and thought he was just terrific. Robin Wright was good, but Spacey clearly the star.

The U.K. trial began on a note of being famous and having money and I do think that’s a huge part of any situation like this. Certain people see someone famous and can claim whatever they want. Sadly, it takes a trial and some public humiliation to get to a fitting finale.

I had heard stories about Spacey for years, but I was never there, so it was just that … stories repeated over and over. His was just amazing in The Usual Suspects and American Beauty was just stunning. His take on the criminal in Seven was positively chilling. I just watched the final scene again and was mesmerized.Artists are indeed a different breed. Surely he’s a complicated guy … but guilty? I have my doubts. Will his career rise again? Whatever, it’s going to be way difficult for sure.

SINEAD O’CONNOR PASSES — O’Connor’s 1990 “Nothing Compares To You” was a monster hit catapulting her to stardom. Her SNL appearance destroyed all that instantly. I’ve read numerous article on her since her passing and it’s just really all sad … all of them. Mental illness, if that’s what it indeed was, is truly awful.

Most of the articles and memorials ended with them saying she is finally at peace. Tremendous artist and spokesperson. RIP Sinead.

Randy Mesiner and the Eagles

MEISNER RIP — Randy Meiser of The Eagles passed this week. He was an integral part of the group – singing lead on “Take It To The Limit” – but had issues with Glenn Frey. Originally with with the band Poco with Richie Furay and Jim Messina, he worked with a slew of LA-based acts. He also was in the infamous Stone Canyon Band that backed up Ricky Nelson – who, by the way, should be the subject of a doc.

As L’Enfant terrible Bob Lefsetz pointed out -in a surprisingly poignant piece- there were really two Eagles – the first with Meisner; Don Felder and Bernie Leadon and the second with Joe Walsh and Timothy Schmitt. Excellent point. Personally, the first-group was just excellent. The second, not so much.

RIP Randy.

SHORT TAKES — Apple TV+’s Invasion, which we’ve been talking feverishly about, just dropped the trailer for their second season – which drops weekly starting August 23. In reviewing the viewer-posts and several critics-reviews, it seems that people loved the show, but wished it had moved along at a quicker pace. Too many characters yelling and crying some said. Also dropped is the trailer for The Morning Show, Season Three, which comes September 13. With a new behind-the-scenes team, the action is definitely upped from their bleary Season Two: which in my opinion was almost unwatchable. The new season seems to be very, very dark. Jon Hamm joins the cast and his presence is a welcomed plus. In fact, the major complaint came from Zucker himself, who not only denied everything but also wanted the trade rag to take down the article. So far, they haven’t. … Saw the hot new teen sensation Renee Rapp on Friday’s Today Show. Impressive but I think she was lip-syncing as at one point the vocals continued, but her mouth wasn’t moving. She brought her parents on for a moment and it and it made me think of all the times Debbie Gibson brought hers on. She was in Tina Fey’s Mean Girls and though the performance was good, it seemed to me to be a bit too prepared. Ashley Suppa could have done much better job … Paul Rodgers. Remember him from Free and Bad Company?Powerful voice always. He’s released a new album; his first new music in 20 years. The album’s titled Midnight Rose. INVASION DEUX? — I’ve been watching Apple TV+’s Invasion and really enjoying it. Apparently there is a second season debuting next month and I made the mistake of reading a review of their their final episode -season one- and the first line was that the ending was a complete shocker.
