Keep your grooming essentials organized and within reach with these hanging, wall-mounted, and corner shower caddies.

I recently moved apartments, which leads to endless comparisons between the old place and new: I miss the modern amenities of the old place, but I love the extra space and top-floor vantage in the new one. It’s a trade-off in every way, and I succeeded in making peace with that fact. Except for one thing: I miss my old shower and its built-in, chest-level shelf that negated the need for a shower caddy. I had space to store my products (and as a grooming editor who lives with my partner, it’s a lot of products). In the new place, I had to install my storage, because the bathtub ledge has a fraction of the necessary real estate.

It’s a minor problem but still one that I thought about ceaselessly for that first week. Most people wouldn’t mull over the finer details of their shower caddy, but I’m not most people, and thus I’m the right guy to recommend one to you. So, here we are.

The list of the best shower caddies below features a range of top-tier options for all types of showers—factoring in a number of considerations, as outlined below.

Most importantly, you need to consider your shower, and how this caddy fits into the space. It needs to rest in a place where it won’t get bumped into, and it needs to be big enough and sturdy enough to support whichever products it contains. Sure, that seems obvious, but I really do recommend taking a shower and imagining which kind of a caddy will be most practical based on these factors.

Think, too, about the maximum width and height of the area you’re choosing, and shop accordingly. Pro tip: A corner shower caddy maximizes the space and is the least likely to get in the way. A hanging caddy that suspends from your shower head is another unobtrusive option. It’s great to get one with suction support, if your walls allow it; they’ll need to be a nonporous material, like tile, glass, fiberglass, or metal. This will allow it to stay in place without sliding forward or tilting, especially given the hefty shampoos and body washes it might hold.

And, how much weight do you think this caddy needs to hold? Some small ones can hold 6 to 7 pounds; your shampoo, conditioner, cleanser, and body wash could all fit. Larger ones can carry up to 30-pound loads for families, product enthusiasts, and jumbo-size shoppers.

Many caddies offer unique storage functions, like a hook for loofahs (if you use them) or a shower scraper, a spot for a soap dish, and even a razor (a wet shower is not the first place we’d store a razor, but some people do prefer this). Be thinking of its functions beyond simply storing things; think about how it stores things, and how the design, placement, and even the aesthetic add value to your life—in that they make your showering experience less cumbersome or make your shower itself more conducive to the task at hand. Okay, enough waxing poetic on shower caddy design...

With the above considerations in mind, I looked for simple, uncomplicated, and well-designed shower caddies that excel in the thing they offer. There is no preference for a hanging caddy over a wall-mounted one; different showers demand different caddies. Instead, each of these products is the best in its seemingly straightforward task, for various reasons that you’ll learn below. The one constraint I used while evaluating was that models don’t require drilling during installation; there are simply too many high-quality drill-free options, so unless your shower is custom-designed and necessitates drilling into, we highly encourage a hanging or suction pick from the roster below.

Look, I know that $70 feels like a tall order for a shower caddy, but considering function for a couple or small family, this caddy checks all the boxes. The frame extends, and the three shelves are adjustable (vertically and horizontally), allowing you to customize it to your shower space, as well as height and capacity demands. Hooks, hangers, and a soap dish allow for any and all ancillary needs (wash cloths, loofahs, razors, etc). A pair of suction cups at the base keeps it in place, and anodized aluminum and stainless steel promise longevity—though they do rust in time. Still, while that would nullify most others from contention, this caddy deserves top spot for showerhead models.

Sometimes, all you need is a little extra storage space, and a corner placement makes for minimal intrusion into your shower. Ikea’s Tisken basket grips to tile and holds the heftiest shampoo bottle (and then some), plus has drainage for any residue. It’s best for the bachelor, for the minimalist couple, or for the roommates who prefer to keep their product separate. Tisken has space for shampoo, conditioner, cleanser, and body wash (or a bar soap). And last we checked, those are all the essentials.

And sometimes, more is more. SmarTake nails that (or rather, suctions it) with this two-piece corner storage set; it is perfect for large families, couples who share germs but not shower real estate, and product hoarders alike. Although the large suction surfaces can be a little tedious to align (even if you’re following a grout-line as your guide), this sturdy caddy can support 30 pounds, so the precision and labor isn’t wasted.

The un-angled cousin of the aforementioned corner caddy duo, this Kienapanc pair gives you every type of needed storage between its two large shelves. You’ve got a soap dish, razor hook, 12 dangling hooks, a wide berth for large products, and singular suction strips that are easy to anchor. Each can also hold up to 30 pounds.

This is Tooletries’ specialty: Creating grooming tools with an eye for aesthetics and individuality. The James is ideal for holding your razor, your toothbrush, toothpaste—whatever it is you do in the shower beyond the shampooing and sudsing, this pouch can keep it upright (though it can only hold a small bottle or two). It has drainage holes, and sticks to the shower walls without adhesives. Simply press it onto any clean, dry glass, marble, or shiny tile surface, and peel it away for traveling and cleaning. It’s also terrific outside of the shower, should you want to stick it to your vanity mirror.

For some people, a simple mesh caddy is all they need. It travels well, is hand washable, and dries out quickly, preventing bacterial buildup. This one from Misslo hangs over the curtain rod (or even the bathroom door) with three rust-proof hooks and grommets. Its four largest pouches hold up to 1,000-milliliter bottles (that is, 34 ounces).

I’m guessing that half of American college students take this L.L. Bean organizer with them to the dorms. The spill-proof, tote-able, and zippable nylon organizer is a terrific makeshift caddy, particularly for dorm rooms, gym locker rooms, hotels, and campsites. It can hold up to 25 pounds with its built-in hook and dangles anywhere with its two-level design. You can even remove a smaller insert shower caddy, should you want to keep those few products separate from the rest of its contents. (Editor’s Note: Only the solid color models are made with nylon. The print fabric is a slightly less durable water-resistant polyester shell.)

Although you might not luxuriate in the bath as often as you like, a bath caddy is a terrific way to store products at the far end of your shared shower-tub. It’s also terrific to have ready for whenever you do take a soak and want a glass of wine and Netflix at the ready. Homemaid Living’s extendable tray has the draining and storage needed in any good bath caddy, including a reading rack, tablet holder, and nonslip silicone tracks. Its bamboo makeup repels moisture. It might even encourage you to fill up the tub and soak a bit more often.

Yeah, yeah, it’s a basket. But one perfectly suited for shared showers or shower-floor storage. (Who said caddies need to be elevated?) And though its small frame won’t tote your jumbo-sized body wash, it will tuck away neatly beneath the bed or in the closet until it’s needed next. It also makes for great bathroom storage, given its waffled, breathable design. Please note, though, that it has drainage holes in the bottom—it is foremost a shower caddy, after all.

Although you won’t be storing a 22-pound bar of soap on this dish anytime soon, that is the storage claim Hasko makes for this soap dish. With that impressive stat on the table, this dish is bar-none the best wall-mounted option for your shower (or kitchen). It also has two hooks for a loofah, shower scraper, or other tool. It is notably rust-proof, but one other notable thing is its adhesive options: Choose between 3M adhesion or suction, depending on your preference or surface texture. (The 3M will be harder to remove and replace, but that’s as much a pro as it is a con.)
